Course overview

This course provides governors with an overview NHS within the context of the governor role. This includes an overview of the national context and NHS funding flows; as well as tips for governors on analysing financial information and asking questions of the financial reports they receive.

When I initially signed up for this course I thought it would be interesting but overwhelming. It has surpassed all of my expectations and the content was absolutely fantastic. Learning objectives:

• An understanding of financial flows in the NHS and the differences between the types of financial statements
• An improved appreciation of income and expenditure and cost improvement plans
• The opportunity to discuss the governor role in significant transactions and financial assurance to better understand areas to look out for and questions to ask
• The opportunity to meet and network with governors from other foundation trusts.

On the day

This course is a full day event running in two sections across one day. The course is delivered on Zoom. Estimated timings are:

Section one: 9.30am-12.15pm

Section two: 1.30-4.00pm
