The NHS Providers Digital Boards programme aims to increase the confidence and capability of NHS boards and senior leaders to harness digital to transform and enable improvement, productivity and innovation.
The programme is designed to support board members and senior leaders to:
Collectively lead digital transformation.
Effectively assure risks around digital transformation.
Maximise the opportunities of digital as an enabler of change.
Make informed decisions to harness digital to achieve transformation.
The programme is available free of charge to all members, thanks to funding from NHS England as part of their Digital Academy programmes, and it is delivered in partnership with Public Digital.
Bespoke board and senior leadership development sessions
Each development session, which is tailored to the individual needs of trusts, focuses on building assurance, confidence and understanding on key topics relating to digital transformation. Based on our pre-work, we will design an agenda that meets the needs of your trust and supports the delivery of your strategic priorities. These sessions are delivered in person and while each session is different, topics can include building board confidence, assurance on digital strategy and cyber security, prioritisation and building a successful delivery culture. We also offer workshop style sessions covering areas such as user centred design, developing a digital strategy and digital inclusion.
Virtual events and peer learning
Our events, open to all board members and senior leaders, provide an opportunity to learn from peers and other sectors on key aspects of digital leadership and transformation. Alongside these events, we have our Digital Boards Leadership Network which meets three times a year and members receive a bi-monthly bulletin on key topic areas.
Strategic one-to-one support
Led by our delivery partners, Public Digital, this offer provides board members and senior digital leaders with one-to-one support over a period of six months. This offer allows leaders to problem solve, seek advice and gain support on strategic thinking with a peer experienced in leading digital transformation in trusts or other large organisations.
Leadership resources
Our blogs and written resources explore the changing digital landscape and cover topics for trusts at different points in their digital maturity journey. Members also have access to a knowledge hub which provides bite-sized board resources including podcasts, case studies and blogs with practical learning and tips for boards on the digital transformation agenda.
Through this programme, we have delivered over 110 bespoke development sessions, 50 events and published over 50 leadership resources. 97% of board members who participated in a development session would recommend this work to a fellow NHS board and 90% of board members felt the sessions increased their confidence in assuring the delivery of digital programmes.
The Digital Boards programme has supported the development of digital understanding at a strategic level within the organisation, enabling the board to refresh the strategic priorities for digital, enhance thinking and provide stronger strategic direction to the trusts digital journey.
