• The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee has published their report: Social care funding: time to end a national scandal, following their inquiry into social care funding.
• It states that £8bn should be spent immediately by the government to restore the quality of and access to adult social care in England to acceptable levels.
• It finds 1.4 million older people (14% of the population) had an unmet care need in 2018.
• It also claims the government should then introduce free personal care, funded through general taxation, over a period of five years.
