23 January 2020
- The new report Getting to the right care in the right way – digital triage in health services presents the findings of Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) first regulatory sandbox pilot.
- Regulatory sandboxing is a way of working proactively and collaboratively to understand new types of health and social care service, agree what good quality looks like, and to develop approach to regulation.
- CQC have said that sandboxing is particularly important for innovative and technology-enabled services, which are developing quickly.
Responding to CQC’s report on digital triage, the director of policy and strategy at NHS Providers, Miriam Deakin said:
"Triaging is an important part of a patient’s journey and this is an interesting piece of work from CQC and others to explore how digital can improve this experience as well as improve efficiency.
"Trust leaders will welcome the idea of ‘sandboxing’ innovations to ensure they have time to develop and be fully evaluated. This approach could enable trusts and innovators to collaborate with CQC to improve the way pioneering clinical activities are inspected and ultimately increase uptake.
