Autonomous AI in action: Tackling NHS backlogs and improving patient outcomes in dermatology

Date: 12 February 2025

Time: 12:00

Venue: Online (free)

This webinar will showcase real NHS stories and expert insights into how autonomous AI as a medical device (AIaMD) is transforming dermatology waitlists, improving patient outcomes, and delivering measurable value across trusts.

Hear from NHS colleagues at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWFT) and our partner Skin Analytics about how they are using Skin Analytics’ AI Deep Ensemble for the Recognition of Malignancy (DERM) as the world’s first autonomous AIaMD for dermatology. Learn how DERM will enable CWFT to:

◆ Release up to 30% of appointments with consultants for patients with skin cancer and inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis,

◆ Safely discharge and reassure patients with benign lesions more quickly, and

◆ Free up dermatologists who are now able to process an additional 25% of teledermatology patients, for CWFT.

Key takeways

  • Understand how NHS teams are leveraging AIaMD to free up capacity and improve patient care.
  • Learn from data and insights from over 135,000 NHS patients seen by Skin Analytics and understand the guardrails and post-market surveillance processes in place that make DERM safe to use.
  • Gain practical knowledge and first-hand experience from NHS colleagues and Skin Analytics experts about integrating AI into dermatology services

Why this matters

Skin cancer referrals are growing by 11% year-on-year, placing immense pressure on dermatology teams already struggling with one in four consultant roles unfilled. This stretched landscape poses significant safety concerns, but autonomous AI offers a scalable and safer solution. As the government prioritises a shift from analogue to digital systems, AIaMD aligns with national goals to modernise healthcare and address these critical challenges effectively.

What we'll cover

🎯 CWFT’s role in advancing AI in dermatology: How the trust shaped national conversations, created guidance, transitioned from pilot to standard practice, and set a global example for healthcare systems.

🏥 Clinical perspectives: Explore how AI supports earlier patient assessments and addresses national challenges.

📈 Performance and safety data: Review robust data demonstrating AI’s impact on dermatology services

Interactive Q&A: Get answers to your questions directly from the experts.
