• NHS England publish NHS staff survey 2017
• 487,227 members of NHS staff took part 
• Overall staff engagement has declined

NHS England have today published the findings from the NHS staff survey 2017.

Responding to the survey, NHS Providers deputy chief executive Saffron Cordery, said:

"Last week – with the publication of the British Social Attitudes survey - we saw clear evidence of falling public satisfaction with the health service. These staff survey findings also reflect the increasing – and sometimes intolerable - pressures on the NHS.

"The only surprise is that it has taken so long.

The findings also reflect continuing efforts by trusts to support their staff. It is vital that they feel valued and respected as they go about their work

"Overall staff engagement has slipped and it is worrying to see lower satisfaction with the quality of work and care they are able to deliver.

"It is also disappointing to see growing levels of work related stress and experiences of physical violence and abuse from patients, relatives or the public.

"Most staff report working additional unpaid hours, and there has been a striking drop in satisfaction with pay.

"But the findings also reflect continuing efforts by trusts to support their staff.

"It is vital that they feel valued and respected as they go about their work.”
