Professor Sir Terence Stephenson is Chair of NHS Providers and Nuffield Professor of Child Health at the Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, University College London.

Knighted in 2018 for services to healthcare, he was a National Institute of Health Research Senior Investigator from 2022. He was previously chair of the Health Research Authority until January 2025, and chaired the UK General Medical Council (2015-2018), the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (2012-2014), and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (2009-2012), working with five Secretaries of State across three governments.

A former Dean of the Medical School at the University of Nottingham, he has been an honorary Fellow of eleven national medical colleges worldwide. As an honorary consultant at UCLH and Great Ormond Street Hospital, his research has focused on early-life physiology and paediatric illness, publishing over 330 papers and co-authoring seven textbooks.

Professor Stephenson studied computing and physiological science before medicine and has secured over £15 million in research funding.
