UK healthcare is replete with innovative digital projects big and small, but the key challenge remains to share knowledge, identify and scale up best practice. Despite the promise of new disruptive technologies, they often struggle to get on the radar of the NHS IT leaders leading transformational change.
Digital Health Rewired 2020, taking place on 3-4 March at London Olympia, supported by NHS Providers, is to buck that trend. It brings the diverse UK digital health community together to discover new possibilities for delivering health and care services through technology.
In a panel debate at the Leadership Summit on day one, NHS Providers deputy chief executive Saffron Cordery, will be joined by chairs and chief executives from local NHS organisations to tackle the challenge of 'getting boards switched on to digital'.

Connecting leaders with disruptive innovation
I asked Adrian Byrne, who is chief operating officer at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and also chair of our Digital Health chief information officers (CIOs) Networks, what makes the show a popular choice for NHS professionals interested in digital or transformation?
For him, Rewired is a relatively new event that has a bit of the zeitgeist about it. It connects nicely with the networks of healthcare informatics professionals and brings a number of the current, relevant suppliers into an event that runs alongside a leadership forum for executive leads with an interest in digital or transformation.
Digital leads will benefit from practical insights, knowledge and ideas they can take home and act on. The seven dedicated conference tracks will cover digital transformation, clinical software, chief clinical information officers (CCIO) and CIO track, artificial intelligence (AI) and Analytics, cloud and mobile, and shared care discussed with inspirational leaders on digital health.
The seventh track covers interoperability which has been the highest priority for NHS IT leaders two years running according to Digital Health Intelligence's annual NHS IT Leadership Survey.
The Interoperability track will explore the latest developments and examples of interoperability and the use of the key standards, such as fast healthcare interoperability resources (FHIR), that enable interoperability at scale. These are essential topics to deliver data sharing benefits across regions.

Interoperability a priority
Byrne will be chairing this track and hopes delegates will take away that "interoperability is essential and even more relevant in the future integrated care system (ICS) world".
"I hope they grasp that it is achievable, and that there are now some great tools and leaders showing the way in this space as well as a desire to do more in their own organisations and with their own suppliers."
The line-up of speakers will include Paul Jones, chief digital and information officer at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and Terence Eden, head of open technology at NHSX.
Frank Hester (founder and chief executive of The Phoenix Partnership) is speaking there so it should be one to watch, as he's known for his forthright opinions.
Hester is joined by big-name national NHS leaders on the Rewired 2020 speaker line-up. Expect insights on the future of digital health from chief executive of NHS Digital, Sarah Wilkinson, and NHSX's chief executive and chief digital officer, Matthew Gould and Tara Donnelly respectively.
One of the key questions at Rewired 2020 will be how NHS trusts can better engage with staff to deliver digital transformation at all levels, including those at the very top of the organisation.
